Book Review: A Study in Scarlet
"A Study in Scarlet" is the first published story of one of the most famous literary detectives of all time, Sherlock Holmes. Here Dr. Watson, who has just returned from a war in Afghanistan, meets Sherlock Holmes for the first time when they become flat-mates at the famous 221 B Baker Street. In "A Study in Scarlet" Sherlock Holmes investigates a murder at Lauriston Gardens as Dr. Watson tags along with Holmes while narratively detailing his amazing deductive abilities."
While I was reading this, the "Sherlock Holmes" mini-series scenes flashed before my eyes. This is the content of the first episode of that series. It is a classic for sure.
Before the advent of ebooks, getting books that I wanted to read was a hassle for me. Either the books stores didn't have a copy at all or the library copy was never available at the required time.
What I am saying is that, while growing up I didn't really know about all the books in the series or about which was the first book in the series, etc. Or maybe I just never bothered to enquire about it. I used to read just about anything available to me to read. I just kept reading.
Oh boy! How times have changed now! Now I have to plan my reading in order not to get overwhelmed by the choices available.
A brilliant piece of deductive work this one is. I guess knowing that this was the starting point of the great Sherlock Holmes series made this reading experience quite surreal for me.
No comments on the contents of this one. Absolutely brilliant it is.
I love Sherlock Holmes, the books and the serial. I haven't read this one. Thanks for the heads up, Jyo.
ReplyDeleteI've watched the series and always love rewatching it. :) My first time with this story was in my childhood during one of the story sessions with my grandfather. He used to tell us many of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
