Book review: Milk and Honey
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐
"The book is divided into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. Milk and Honey takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look."

I have nothing against the emotions expressed in the words of this book. Yet, I don't think I consider it poetry for one. Then the repetitions in it put me off a bit. I got a bit confused with the lines sometimes. The first chapter didn't make any sense to me, it left me feeling that I am not too "intellectual" to understand it. Maybe you will! I did get the gist of it, but the actual lines never led me to feel the way it should have? Maybe if I reread it, it might make more sense.
The other chapters, I could understand pretty well. So I guess the above reaction wasn't entirely my fault. There is also no flow in the emotions, just random lines and words forcefully placed all over the place to bring in some dramatic effect or the other.
Or maybe it is just me...
I don't know why I wanted to give it 2 stars. I am giving it 3 because it has a bit of raw emotion in there that I did appreciate.
And it was perfect for the following Reading Prompts too:
Popsugar Reading Challenge 2021: A book in a different format than what you normally read
Book Bingo 2021: Poetic Rhapsody
Thanks for sharing your honest review, Jyothi. I’ve heard everyone raving about this book. It’s good to know it from another perspective too.
ReplyDeleteI've heard the ravings too. I guess that makes the expectations too high!
DeleteI love Rupi Kaur and have done a post about her and her poetry and art!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read or seen any of her other works. Maybe I will look for them now.
